The first mentions of one casale Arianum date from before 1060 under the reign of the Norman Roger I of Sicily. More reliable are the data on the hamlet of Palazzo Adriano reported in a document 1243. Since 1282 the feuds that now constitute the area of Palazzo Adriano series saw more than thirty baronies granted any lease by the abbots of the monastery of Santa Maria di Fossanova.
In 1988, Giuseppe Tornatore has also chosen as a setting outside Palazzo Adriano for his film Nuovo Cinema Paradiso.
Giovanni Emanuele Bidera, was an Italian poet and playwright. He was born in Palazzo Adriano.
